Aswan to Edfu -- Oct 13
I do continental breakfast in the Aquavit Terrace and have a long conversation with the chef. Then it is off for a really lovely boat trip to a Nubian village. There are lots of river fowl and the temperature is mild. We dock at a Nubian home where we are given bread and tea but also harassed by many vendors. House is interesting, though very touristy, and the view from top is great.
Back on the boat and now on to a bus to Philae Temple and a short drive thru Aswan. We are glad we skipped the light show last night at the temple. But by daylight the temple was interesting. Back to the bus and our last stop is the papyrus factory. We buy one for Tommy and one for us.
Through all this Greg has stayed back and ended up with a doctor visit and two shots. He texts me about Mary needing to get money to pay the doctor and we come up with a plan. Turns out he is able to use his charge card.
Finally we are back on board where we can check on Greg in person and have lunch. Steve has another burger and I have a Mediterranean salad. Greg nibbles.
The ship has cast off so we have some down time. But soon we are at Kom Ombo for another temple visit. Hanan always has interesting things to see. This Temple has info about surgical tools and a calendar. Also a lot of crocodile gods on walls and mummies in museum. The sun is setting and pretty while we fight our way through the vultures. We have come to calling it "running the gauntlet." Hanan is helping someone buy scarfs and I end up with one to just to stop the guy from continuing to bug Hanan. It's very funny.
We have a meeting about leaving the ship and info about the next day's activities. We are almost at the end.
Dinner is chateaubriand. Steve gets a better bottle of wine. Marilyn and Bob join us again. We do girls at one table and guys at the other.
