Cairo and Giza -- Oct 7

We have a full day of pyramids and start out at the smaller step pyramid at Saqqara and the Tomb of Kagemni, approx 2330 BC. Things are so old! Interesting decoration and great views of the three major pyramids of Giza.

Lunch is at a restaurant right near the Giza pyramids. Acceptable buffet. Then we make a stop at an Egyptian rug factory. We see young children doing the knotting on the carpets. Then we get turned out onto the sales floor and some pushy salesmen try to sell us very expensive carpets. Mary and Greg and Molly and Brian both buy carpets to have shipped home.

Then we are off to explore the famous  pyramids. We don't go inside these, but get to walk around and climb up a little of the largest pyramid. This is the place for the infamous camel ride. It is pretty fun. Then we get back in the bus and head to a spot where we can see the sphinx.

We are back at the hotel and learn that we have a 5am wakeup call. After a nice buffet dinner at the hotel at a table with a view of the Nile we try to sleep. I have a rough go and the the phone sets off an alarm around 2am. 5am comes way too soon.
